Plantamed is a Swedish company founded in 1979. Natural medicine, medicinal plants, homeopathy, food supplements and manufacturing in Sweden have all formed part of the company’s development over several decades.
A Swedish company with a long-term background
Plantamed Aktiebolag was registered in 1979 and is based in Eskilstuna, Sörmland, Sweden. Its registered activities include pharmaceutical manufacturing as well as work related to natural medicine, natural products and the production of food supplements.
That background does not mean that all Plantamed products belong to the same regulatory category. It describes the company’s long association with natural medicine and plant-based products, followed by its development in manufacturing and nutritional products.
Raimo Heino and medicinal plants
Founder Raimo Heino studied natural medicine in Germany, later studied medicine in Uppsala, conducted research on the central nervous system and taught anatomy in medical education at Uppsala University, according to Swedish publisher Norstedts.
Norstedts also notes that Heino applied knowledge from natural and conventional medicine to work involving plant-based natural medicinal products, homeopathic medicinal products and food supplements. He is the author of Våra läkande växter, which discusses plants and herbs in their historical and research context.
From history to present-day manufacturing
Plantamed maintains a production presence near Eskilstuna. Its history connects product development, medicinal plants, natural medicine and manufacturing in Sweden. This context helps explain the breadth of the company’s background while keeping the classification and permitted information of each individual product distinct.
