Plantamed is a Swedish company founded in 1979 and based near Eskilstuna in Sörmland, Sweden. The company works with natural herbs and food supplements across research, development, manufacturing and sales.
Founded by Raimo Heino
Plantamed was founded in 1979 by Raimo Heino. His background brought together medicine, neuroanatomy, research on the central nervous system and anatomy teaching in medical education at Uppsala University.
According to Swedish publisher Norstedts, Heino also studied natural medicine in Germany, opened a natural-medicine practice in the early 1970s and later studied medicine in Uppsala. He is the author of Våra läkande växter (Our Healing Plants), a 2001 book that discusses around 60 plants and herbs.
Production in Sweden
Plantamed develops and manufactures food supplements and body-care products at its own production facility near Eskilstuna. Swedish manufacturing is an important part of the company’s long-term product-development and quality-management background.
Plantamed holds a GMP certificate issued by the Swedish Medical Products Agency for the manufacture of medicinal products and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The certificate relates to the activities within its stated scope; it does not mean that every Plantamed food supplement is a medicinal product.
Natural-medicine and manufacturing background
Natural medicine, medicinal plants and Swedish pharmaceutical manufacturing form part of Plantamed’s company history. Raimo Heino’s experience in research, teaching and medicinal plants influenced the company’s early development, while the company’s production background has continued alongside its work with food supplements and related products.
